Several weeks ago I was fortunate enough to have been photographed by the fabulous family photographers, Labour Union, at Vancouver Mom’s Top 30 Mom Blogger party. They were fantastic to work (ahem, more like play) with and I love how the shots capture so much love and playfulness between Little Miss and I.
When Labour Union asked me if I’d do a Father’s Day giveaway with them I couldn’t say HELL YA fast enough.

Favourite dad-related memory is my husband and almost 3 year old son working together on building a Lego car this week. They took their ‘job’ so seriously and I managed to get photos of them working together – although they sadly look nothing like the amazing ones by Labour Union.

One of my favourite Dad moments is when I was just about to have Quinlan. Despite being a little squeamish, Anthony let me hold his hand as Q came much quicker than either of us (or the medical professionals) anticipated. I felt so connected with him and it is representative of how he is as a dad. Always there when we need him.
You should come over and enter my contest. Today is the last day!

Our daughter is soothed by running her little fingers through human hair. One of my favourite Dad moments was when I looked over and saw that my husband had tears streaming down his face as our daughter was pulling out his chest hair, one by one, while snuggling with him. It is just one of many examples I have that my husband will do anything for our daughter!!xoxo

one of my best memories of my dad is the endless hours he spend teaching me chess, backgammon, and go when I was little… like 5-8 years old. Now that I am a Mom, I can’t even imagine what kind of patience that must have taken!

My favourite Dad memory happened three weeks ago when we were traveling with our 15 month old son in Holland. He loves any “broom broom” (anything with wheels), but was particularly excited about all the bicycles in The Netherlands. Well, he finally got to go for a ride on the back of Daddy’s bike. The smile was truly from ear to ear. What a happy kiddo taking his first ride with Dad.
I personally never had a dad growing up, it was always my mom and I. So when my husband and I found out that we were pregnant, I really hoped that he would be an amazing dad – and I was not disappointed:) The moment we found out it was a little boy, my husband teared up and was very quiet. As soon as we were out of the doctor’s office, he called everyone he knew (that knew we were pregnant) and told them that HE was having a boy, lol!
Oliver loves his push bike – he says he’s just like his Papa when he’s on it and often asks my husband to get out his bike so they can ride around together. I suspect his love of bikes is genetic as my husband considers getting out for a 100km ride a ‘short’ ride. I love that they share this hobby!

Another favourite thing around our house is for my husband to pull out his guitar to play ‘kid’ songs for our children after dinner. Our baby, who’s only 9 months old, smiles the entire time and taps her fingers on the table, while our three year old sings the ABCs out loud (but loves to tell his dad, “No singing, Papa. Just listen.” A rock star in the making, with all those demands.

One day I came home and found my husband and son in front of a baking dish, several plastic containers, my baking spoons and cups, and a whole lot of rice. My son was really engaged, and they were moving the rice from bowl to pan to spoon. I can’t believe that something so simple could be so much fun – I love how uncomplicated the games are my husband plays with our kids. I would have NEVER thought of that one.

My biological dad passed away when I was five, and my step-dad is one tough cookie who never expresses his feelings. Not directly, anyhow. He shows me he cares about me in other ways – like before I was married, he’s grill my poor boyfriends on their car knowledge and brush them off as idiots if they couldn’t tell him how many miles per gallon they were getting on their rides. Some of my best memories with him, though, are the ski trips he’d take us one. He taught both my sister and I to ski when we were really young, and there’s a great picture of us with Santa on top of some mountain at Lake Tahoe.

My husband is not the type of guy to show emotion, ever. But the day our son came into this world, he could not contain himself. He had the biggest grin on his face, and it has stayed there. Every time he sees our son, he cannot help but smile.
On a recent camping trip, my son was up at 3am crying his little heart out because the wind was so strong that it was rocking our tent trailer back and forth. My husband and I don’t do co-sleeping with the baby, just a personal choice. But that night, my husband got up and grabbed T-dog to bring him into our bed. He finally calmed down, and snuggled right into his daddy. Later that morning at around 5am, I awoke feeling like I was about to fall over the edge of the bed, and when I looked over, my husband and son were snuggled up together taking over the ENTIRE bed!!! T-dog was splayed out just like his dad:) Although annoyed that I had no space, it was so cute that I had to take a picture!
My fav Dad memory is of my poor father, having a discussion with me about shaving my legs. We lived in Japan at the time, just him and I. I was 11 going on 22 and seeing as my mom wasn’t there to curtail my wild ideas, I went out and bought a pack of straight razors…(seemed so harmless then!)
He just about had a heart attack when I told him I was going to use them to shave the almost non-existant hair from my legs. I’ll never forget that argument…he ended up winning (or so he thought!)

One day when I was in elementary school, it was time for a school bake sale and I was asked to bring cookies to sell. My mum was busy at a meeting and so my dad said he would bake them for me. He added too much salt and baking powder and they turned into big puffy cookies that you could not eat. It is a pretty random memory and was traumatic at the time, but I really love this memory now that I am an adult!
Consider me entered!

My husband and I did not know we were having a girl when we were expecting our second child, and as I pushed that baby out after eight hours of labour I heard the nurses ask, “What is it, Dad?” After all that work I was excited to know who this new little person was … and my husband said, “I … don’t … know?” I guess that it’s hard to tell sometimes with little girls.. That has to be one of my favourite Dad-related memories … one I’ll be sure to share with Charlotte when she’s old enough!

My latest Dad-related event for the scrapbook is of my husband and son sitting on the couch together, wearing their matching Germany team jerseys and cheering for our team during the 2010 World Cup! It’s so great that my husband has embraced my culture so enthusiastically, and my son … well, he has no choice as he’s a passport holding citizen. Go Germany!

My favourite memories of my dad involve the hours we spent stargazing when I was a kid. He patiently taught me all the constellations we could see. I still hear his voice when I look up at a clear night sky.
I should probably tell him that one of these days.
The Imp absolutely adores his Daddy. Anything my husband does, The Imp imitates: the way he sits on the couch reading, the way he stands leaning against the wall waiting for the elevator… It’s like watching my husband and his little mini-me!
